If you have type 2 diabetes, your body does not respond to insulin the way it should. This causes high blood sugar, which can damage your eyes, kidneys, nerves, and other organs.
When diet, exercise, and weight reduction have not lowered blood glucose levels enough on their own, your physician may prescribe Avandia for you.
What Is Avandia?
Avandia is the brand name for rosiglitazone designed to manage blood sugar levels for patients with type 2 diabetes.
The prescription medication is made by GlaxoSmithKline. Approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in 1999.
In 2007, the FDA required GlaxoSmithKline to add a black box warning to the medication’s label to notify consumers that the medication can cause or worsen congestive heart failure in some patients.
How It Works
Avandia works by increasing your body’s ability to respond to the insulin it naturally makes. This can lower your blood sugar.
Avandia does not cure type 2 diabetes. Lowering and controlling blood glucose levels may help prevent or delay complications of diabetes such as nerve damage, heart disease, kidney disease, or blindness.
Avandia comes as a tablet that is taken by mouth. It is available in three strengths: 2 mg, 4 mg and 8 mg.
Has A Generic Avandia Been Approved in the USA?
No. There is currently no therapeutically equivalent version of Avandia available in the United States.
Generic medications are medications that have the same active ingredient as the brand-name medications do, however, may have different non-active ingredients like fillers or dyes. Generics also tend to cost less than brand-name medications.
The good news is that a low-cost generic Avandia is available from Canada.

Is the Generic Avandia From Canada Safe?
Fraudulent online pharmacies may attempt to sell an illegal generic version of Avandia. These medications may be counterfeit and potentially unsafe.
If you purchase medications online, be sure you are buying from a reputable and valid online pharmacy.
Where Can I Get Affordable and Safe Avandia?
Before doing business with an online pharmacy, confirm it is licensed in its country of origin and that the country has strong pharmacy regulations.
There is a website that helps you with this, by doing the vetting for you, by using these and other criteria. The Canadian International Pharmacy Association runs a site (cipa.com) that allows you to compare medication prices among dozens of pharmacies whose legitimacy it has certified.
For example, Cheapomeds.com is the one that CIPA certified.
Cheapomeds contracts with government-licensed physicians, pharmacists and pharmacies in Canada, the United Kingdom, Australia, New Zealand, Turkey and Germany, to supply brand name and generic medications, packaged and sealed by the original or various generic manufacturers, for direct delivery to all participants.
